Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Design Section of NDOT's Stormwater Division in Carson City, NV. The Stormwater Division is responsible for implementing the requirements of NDOT's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) permit. Incumbent will: perform stormwater quality, hydrologic, and hydraulic engineering analysis and design for stormwater treatment facilities, highway drainage features, erosion control, permanent and temporary Best Management Practices (BMPs), open channels, and storm drain systems; prepare and coordinate construction plans and specifications; review technical engineering calculations, reports, plans, and specifications; coordinate stormwater projects and programs with other divisions, staff, and consultants to ensure stormwater requirements, project goals, and schedules are met; perform field reviews, inspections, and data collection; and assist with preparation of Department's annual stormwater reports.
The ideal candidate should have studied hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater quality and desire to work in this field; excellent organizational and analytical skills; be able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a large organization with multiple priorities; resolve issues and make effective decisions; and have excellent interpersonal, communication, and consensus building skills. NOTE: THIS RECRUITMENT MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER. INCUMBENT MAY MOVE TO THE NEXT LEVEL UPON MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. |

An ABET accredited bachelor's degree in engineering (or equivalent as defined by the Nevada Board of Professional Engineers) or Engineer-in-Training certification is required. |

Application and approval to take the State's professional engineering exam is required within one year of appointment. |
