JOB INFORMATION

Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in areas of screening, assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Substance Abuse Counselor 2 position is located with Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (NNAMHS) in Sparks inside of Dini-Townsend Hospital and is a part time position up to 21 hours per week. The incumbent performs intake and substance abuse evaluations, utilizing screening and assessment instruments such as American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM); diagnoses substance abuse and determines level of care; prepares, implements, and monitors written treatment plans; plans, develops, and conducts alcohol and drug cessation and prevention classes utilizing evidence-based practices; provides in-service training and consultation as requested; and documents all services provided utilizing the electronic medical record system. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Licensure as a Certified Counselor or Licensed Counselor from the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
