The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for one Correctional Nurse II position to be located at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) in Elko, Nevada. NYTC is a 60-bed staff secure facility for male youth age 14 to 18 located in Elko, NV. NYTC's goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values and ways of thinking. This full-time position will be from the hours of 2pm - 10pm. This will include weekends and holidays with overtime after 40 hours per week. Please ensure your application reflects your current nursing license information.
The responsibilities of the nurse include but are not limited to: providing professional nursing care in the facility by coordinating and evaluating health care services and treatment for the juveniles of the facility; maintaining pharmaceutical, laboratory and basic nursing supplies in an organized and efficient manner; conducting weekly doctor clinic; promoting workplace safety; medication administration; responding to medical and psychiatric emergencies; documentation; and be available as a professional resource for the facility staff regarding health and safety issues. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
