The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Under general supervision, this incumbent provides direct assistance and support to the Deputy Director of the Nevada Department of Agriculture in the Sparks, NV office. Duties and responsibilities include: coordinate conference and special events planning as a member of the communications and promotions team; schedule administrative meetings; communicate with vendors and others on technical aspects/logistics; make all travel arrangements; prepare all travel documents, purchase orders and other state required documents for the Deputy Director and key Administration staff; prepare or revise documents, correspondence, charts, graphs, and other items in support of agency operations; assist with budget development and tracking of expenditures and prepare reports summarizing financial and statistical information; create and utilize spreadsheet software; update/maintain department web pages and/or websites; and provide other administrative support duties as assigned. The incumbent will also serve as the Administration Division personnel liaison between Administration staff and Agency Human Resource Services in the distribution of HR related information. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
