Compliance Investigators perform investigations regarding violations of federal and/or State laws or regulations pertaining to a specific State program or regulatory area such as public assistance, real estate, insurance, employment discrimination or sexual harassment. The investigative process is initiated following a formal complaint or suspected violation utilizing standard investigative techniques. Incumbents are not sworn peace officers, and enforcement actions are limited to the specific program or regulatory area and involve informal resolution and/or recommendations for administrative sanctions or penalties which are imposed by a higher authority.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Compliance Investigators are responsible for performing investigations regarding the violations of State and/or federal laws or regulations pertaining to dealers, brokers, drive schools, garages, auto body shops, wreckers and salvage pools. Incumbents work to ensure regulations are being adhered to throughout the automotive industry. Investigators perform inspections of the businesses regulated by the NV Department of Motor Vehicles in order to monitor compliance and detect violations of the State of Nevada Statutes and Administrative Codes. Compliance Investigators are also tasked with investigating complaints and collecting facts in order to facilitate the determination of whether an entity or individual has committed violation(s); prepare concise written reports of investigative findings and recommendations as they relate to the applicable statutes/codes; and testify at Administrative Hearings. This position(s) is located at any major DMV office within the Compliance Enforcement Division. Appointment(s) to this position will be responsible for overseeing the automotive industry located in the Southern region of Nevada. Expected travel related to inspections and investigations is 50% of the time. The Department of Motor Vehicles is required to comply with NRS 239B.010.1.b and 6 CFR 37.45 which allows an agency to conduct a Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) fingerprint clearance check. Any convictions identified in NRS 205 disqualifies any employee or vendor employee from obtaining access to the DMV Computer System.
Identified are Posting or displaying the Social Security Number of another person, Unlawful acts regarding Personal Identifying Information (PII), Unlawful acts regarding computers and information services, Use of Payment Cards, re-encoders and scanning devices to defraud, Unlawful acts regarding credit cards and debit cards. Convictions in the following are also disqualifying: Fraud, Theft, Embezzlement, Forgery, Counterfeiting, Falsely impersonating another. 49 CFR 1572.103 provides that an agency involved in the issuance of Real ID Driver's Licenses and Identification Cards shall not knowingly employ a person if they have been convicted of any of the felonies listed under this regulation, which include Espionage, Sedition, Treason, Terrorism, Transportation Security Incident, Improper Transportation of a Hazardous Material, Unlawful Possession of Explosives, Murder, Making any Threat Concerning a Lethal Device, or Racketeering. Additional Real ID criteria provides that the DMV shall not employ a person if they have been convicted of a felony within 7 years of their application or if an applicant was released from incarceration for one of these crimes within five years of their application including Unlawful Firearm Violations, Extortion, Fraud, Bribery, Smuggling, Immigration Violations, Distribution of Controlled Substances, Arson, Kidnapping, Rape or Sexual Abuse, Assault With Intent to Kill, Robbery or Fraudulent Seaport Entry. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, political science, psychology, social work, business administration or other discipline related to the assignment and one year of investigative experience as an investigator in a specified program area where standard investigative techniques were utilized to make program compliance determinations and prepare detailed reports for the purpose of justifying administrative sanctions, penalties or criminal prosecution. Work experience may be obtained in a law enforcement, investigative, regulatory or compliance setting; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Compliance Investigator I in Nevada State service. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |

A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

This position requires up to 50% of local and overnight travel. |

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process. |
