The Position
Quality Control Specialists review sample casework of public assistance, child support enforcement, disability adjudication/fraud, or vocational rehabilitation programs to determine compliance with State and federal laws, regulations, policies and procedures; identify errors and causal factors; investigate and verify case facts and information; and recommend corrective action or compile data for required reports.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position will be located in either Carson City or Las Vegas, depending on the candidate chosen. The incumbent will be responsible for supervision of the Quality Assurance Unit, including lower-level Quality Control Specialists; Planning, developing, implementing and maintaining the federally mandated quality assurance program; Ensuring disability determinations are made accurately, timely and in compliance with federal requirements; Directing corrective action on decisions that do not conform to Social Security regulations; Analyzing findings that result from Quality Assurance reviews and conducting staff training based on those findings. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of journey level experience determining eligibility for disability insurance, which must have included reviewing the work of others or working with state/federal laws and regulations as they pertain to the Vocational Rehabilitation program, case management and Vocational Rehabilitation practices; OR one year of experience as a Quality Control Specialist I in Nevada State service performing Vocational Rehabilitation duties as described above; OR two years as a Disability Adjudicator III in Nevada State service; OR one year of experience as a Disability Adjudication Supervisor in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
The Examination
Quality Control Specialist 2-DETR
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Do you have a Master's, Bachelor's or Associates degree? Please indicate which degree you have completed.
2) Describe your experience, including the number of years, reviewing cases for a State/Federal Vocational Rehabilitation system and include your experience in writing narrative and statistical reports, making recommendations to staff, writing correspondence, performing statistical computations and comparisons and preparing other materials to accurately describe case findings.
3) Describe your experience training or supervising staff in a State/Federal Vocational Rehabilitation system, indicating the type of training, including the type of employees (counselor, technician, etc.) and the number of individuals supervised or trained.
4) Describe your experience as a counselor/case manager in a State/Federal Vocational Rehabilitation program, including the number of years and the size of caseload.
5) Describe your experience, including the number of years, applying federal regulations related to the State/Federal Vocational Rehabilitation system.
