The Position
Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This Professional Engineer position is being recruited for the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP), Bureau of Corrective Actions Abandoned Mine Lands Branch in Carson City. The P.E. will serve as technical/project management support required to complete review of remedial investigations, feasibility studies, remedial designs and monitor implementation of remedial actions primarily at the Anaconda Copper Mine Site in Yerington, NV. The P.E. in this position needs experience with technical engineering and scientific principles and mine closure perspectives. Ideal candidates will be familiar with mine closure requirements and technologies for heap leach pads and fluid management systems; groundwater contamination assessment, evaluation, and remediation systems; and State regulatory requirements for soil and groundwater assessment and cleanup. Candidates selected for interview will be asked to provide examples of previous work that included review and approval of engineering design plans and oversight of remedial construction (mine closure) activities. Having some knowledge of and experience with CERCLA regulations and guidance, as well as Nevada mining and water pollution control law regulations and guidance is preferred. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively in a team environment with the Supervisor, other staff, technical support contractors, and responsible party management and technical support contractors. The P.E. will also be required to communicate with stakeholders, the regulated community, other agencies, private property owners, mining claimants, and NDEP management to ensure timely and effective investigations and implementation of remedial actions and long-term monitoring activities. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.)
Special Notes
    A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of employment.
    The practice of engineering does not include land surveying or the work ordinarily performed by persons who operate or maintain machinery or equipment.
Special Requirements
    Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
