Emergency Management Programs Managers are responsible for managing programs, personnel and other resources that must satisfy the emergency preparedness mandates and initiatives associated with federal grant programs as well as operational functions of the State Emergency Operations Center.
The Division of Emergency Management (DEM) is recruiting for a Preparedness Section Chief in the Carson City office. Under the direction of the Chief of DEM, the incumbent implements and manages all aspects of the preparedness program to include planning, training, operations, logistics, force management, information management, and all additional duty programs related to the emergency management and disaster preparedness mission; manages the State's emergency response program; prepares, reviews, and updates the State's Disaster and Emergency plans; oversees the coordination of federal and state mandated disaster preparedness and employee training; prepares and monitors programmatic grant reports; maintains and develops agreements with agencies at the local, state, and federal levels; maintains knowledge of current trends, legislation, and best practices related to disaster and emergency preparedness; and supervises and directs the activities of Preparedness Section staff. International Association of Emergency Managers, Certified Emergency Management designation preferred at the time of application. The incumbent must obtain certification within the first year of employment. Activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) may occur in the event of a major emergency. All positions in the agency perform a role to support the SEOC operations. This may serve to disrupt/alter/ revise or totally change all previously established work performance standards, requiring 100% of time until the emergency is over. During activation, the SEOC may be in operation 24/7 for an extended period of time to include holidays and weekends.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in emergency management, fire science, criminal justice, political science, business administration or closely related field and three years of experience in emergency management in a governmental entity or private organization which must have included program management, budget preparation and control, strategic planning, and grant management, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
