The Position
Adult Rights Specialists provide assistance and advocacy to protect and enhance the health, safety, welfare and rights of older persons (adults 60 and older) and/or vulnerable persons (adults with intellectual, physical or related disabilities), henceforth referred to as clients.
Incumbents investigate complaints made by or on behalf of residents 60 years or older who reside in long-term care facilities (skilled nursing, group homes, homes for individual residential care and assisted living facilities). Incumbents work on behalf of the resident under strict resident consent and confidentiality guidelines. Incumbents provide information to residents, family members, facilities and other agencies regarding a variety of topics relative to elder care.
This recruitment is for an Elder Rights Specialist 2 vacancy located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of Health and Human Services in the Long-Term Care Ombudsman program in Las Vegas, NV. Elder Rights Specialist IIs are advocates for individuals residing in long term care settings including skilled nursing facilities, residential facilities for groups, and homes for individual residential care. Advocacy includes responding and investigating complaints and conducting routine visits. In addition to providing direct advocacy, Elder Rights Specialist IIs also provide education to facility staff members and assist with the development of family and resident councils. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, and friendly co-workers, and is a great place to work. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, sociology or related social science or human services field, and one year of professional experience working with older and/or vulnerable persons investigating, mediating, negotiating, and resolving complaints which required the application of rules and regulations in making determinations and preparing detailed reports; OR one year of experience as an Adult Rights Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
