Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This is an Agriculturist 3 position and will work under the general direction of the pest control program manager (Agriculturist 4) in administering the state pest control continuing education program (CEU) in the Nevada Department of Agriculture, Las Vegas office. Responsibilities include inspecting pest control applicators at their office/warehouse and in the field according to neutral scheme inspection schedules and protocol; work with companies and applicators to correct non-compliance issues with applicable codes; investigating verified complaints from the public as to possible violations of pesticide statutes and code; inspections of restricted use pesticide (RUP) dealers for compliance with federal and state statute and code; inspect producer establishments and fumigation treatments as needed; maintains EPA inspector credentials including fulfilling training requirements and reports; refers all potential violations to the program manager for possible enforcement actions; and manage the Nevada database for pest control continuing education with the assistance of an Administrative Assistant II. The incumbent works with private industry to ensure that CEU courses offered to pest control applicators are of high quality and meet all statutory requirements; confirms that all paperwork relating to CEU requirements are processed in a timely manner during relicensing and that companies reporting CEU units are in accordance with annual deadlines; and refers potential violations of CEU issues to the program manager for possible enforcement actions.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and two years of journey level experience in a variety of plant industry programs such as seed certification, vertebrate pest control, licensing of pesticide applicators and pest control firms, agricultural produce grading or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR one year of experience as an Agriculturist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
