The Position
This class series encompasses positions that perform a broad range of professional and technical work involving but not limited to: cultural/natural resource assessment, programming, funding, evaluation, survey, inventory, preservation, research, education, planning, mitigation and recovery.
Serving all regions of the state, the Community Arts Development (CAD) Program provides networking, training and funding to local arts agencies, community organizations, public institutions and businesses to advance partnerships, grow local cultural programing and increase participation in the arts for residents and visitors. This position will be located in Northern Nevada in the Carson City office and will collaborate with the Community Arts Development Specialist located in Las Vegas. The position's responsibilities include assisting with program development, assessment and budget management; providing individualized technical assistance and skills training to local arts agencies, communities and community arts organizations on a wide variety of topics; planning and facilitation of public meetings, workshops and conferences, grants and funding proposals, articles and publications; and collaborations with other Nevada Arts Council (NAC) program areas on agency-wide activities, such as board meetings, surveys and strategic planning.
The position assists with the Community Impact Grant and provides general assistance to applicants for other NAC grant categories as part of the agency's grant management process. These grant categories include, but are not limited to Professional Development Grants, Operational Grants and Project Grants for Organizations. The position assists in the maintenance of statistical information on CAD grants, services and constituents for agency database, state and federal report, and various agency publications. Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities include the following: Demonstrated experience developing new programs/initiatives; experience working within a nonprofit arts organization or arts agency within a government structure; experience developing/managing budgets; experience working with a variety of community representatives including public officials, nonprofit leaders, elected officials, community leaders, artists, volunteers; experience fundraising for a nonprofit organization; understanding of the nonprofit climate in Nevada and of national trends in the arts; demonstrated commitment to professional development and long-term learning; proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite; meeting, workshop, and training facilitation experience; and the ability to navigate and excel in a variety of social and professional settings to support constituents across the state. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in studio art, dance, theater, photography, folklife, communications, architecture, English, creative writing or related field and one year of professional level experience which involved general arts administration, management of an arts program, folklore studies or comparable experience in a public or non-profit setting which included managing and administering arts programs and grants; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience which involved working with a non-profit arts or cultural organization, a public arts or cultural agency or comparable experience in a public or non-profit setting which included managing and administrating arts programs and grants; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Cultural/Natural Resource Specialist I in Nevada State service.
