Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings/appeals officers including preparing legal documents and correspondence; calendaring; maintaining records; and providing assistance on routine problems and inquiries which are not of a legal nature.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Legal Secretary Trainee position is a settlement-funded position under the Bureau of Consumer Protection and is subject to renewed funding each biennium through the legislatively approved budget. The Legal Secretary Trainee position helps to support Deputy Attorneys General primarily in areas of consumer protection, including deceptive trade and antitrust. The position will provide legal secretarial support to Nevada specific, multistate complex litigation, and federal cases, including but not limited to, discovery, litigation, and settlement transactions. The position will also assist with preparing, editing, and formatting promotional materials for consumer protection outreach and education. The position will also handle fundamental secretarial duties including, but not limited to, preparing travel, ordering supplies, formatting documents, preparing and maintaining electronic and physical files, and working in a team environment to support staff within the division. The Legal Secretary Trainee assigned to this position must have expertise in standard office procedures to handle the duties associated with the cases assigned in the division. Under supervision, the Legal Secretary Trainee will acquire skills, experience, and knowledge of various courts rules and procedures, and knowledge of administrative processes and procedures. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of general clerical experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
