The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
This position works within the Department of Administration's Enterprise IT Services (EITS) Division, Network Transport Services Unit and is located in Elko, NV. The IT Professional 2 installs and maintains microwave communications infrastructure to include microwave radios, channel banks, digital access cross connects, network routers, switches, network monitoring system and servers, for a statewide enterprise microwave network. This position is also responsible for performing routine maintenance on communications infrastructure. Supporting public safety communications is also a key function for this position. As such, up to 50% travel (to include frequent backcountry travel to remote communications facilities throughout the year); Standby/On Call; and the ability to climb tower structures up to 150 feet are required.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, and/or applications analysis and development; OR two years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service; OR four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    This position is subject to call-out or call-back.
    Statewide travel is required.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    Requires climbing towers, traveling to remote mountain top sites via 4-wheel Drive, Sno-Cat tracked vehicles, helicopter or hiking by foot.
    Position requires working in inclement weather and varying conditions.
    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    Must be able to climb towers up to 150 feet above ground level.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Radio Frequency (RF) experience in microwave communications (e.g., transmitters, receivers, radio wave propagation at microwave frequencies) is required.
    Experience with network routers, switches, and network management systems is required.
    Experience with IP/MPLS networks is required.
