The Position
Laboratory Technicians perform standardized technical laboratory procedures requiring knowledge in the life and physical sciences.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Nevada Department of Corrections is seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician 1 (Phlebotomist). This position is located in the Medical Division at High Desert State Prison (HDSP) in Indian Springs, NV. Incumbent must have experience in phlebotomy, be familiar with medical laboratory tests and with methods of collecting and processing samples and specimens for medical laboratory testing. Experience working in a Correctional or institutional environment is preferred but not required. Duties will primarily include accessioning Lab Corp orders in computer, blood draws, sending out specimens to Lab Corp, ordering supplies and other duties as needed. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience in phlebotomy is required.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
