Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Adjudications Section of the Division of Water Resources in Carson City. The incumbent is primarily responsible for preparing Abstracts of Claims and Preliminary Orders of Determination; performing the necessary field investigations to determine proceeding with an adjudication and to determine the validity of proofs of appropriation; performing a review of proofs of appropriations filed with the Division; assisting the Hearings Officer in conducting hearings on objections to Preliminary Orders of Determination; assisting the manager and Attorney General in presenting evidence in District Court at Hearings on Orders of Determination; assisting the professional engineers in drafting Final Orders of Determination; assisting staff with resolving problems relating to all aspects of the adjudication process; and conducting field investigations for decreed sources, mediating conflicts over water rights and administering and regulating decrees. Incumbent is also responsible for performing reviews of water rights applications submitted to the Division; conducting field investigations that pertain to water rights; drafting permit terms, certificates, rulings and letters for water rights and all other duties as assigned by the State Engineer. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
