The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. DCFS is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor located in Fernley. These positions are part of the Advanced Foster Care Program (AFCP) approved in 2015 Legislation. This position located in the Fernley office will provide coaching, mentoring, and training to foster families in the AFCP by using an evidence-based model. Incumbents will work closely with foster families in the program through weekly in-home visits to address the training and parenting needs of the foster parents the AFCP. The position may also assist with the recruitment and training of prospective foster families who will participate in the program. The program's goals include increasing placement stability and achieving permanency timely for youth in foster care. Incumbents train foster parents in the evidence-based parenting program, "Together Facing the Challenge" and the trauma informed care training "Caring For Children Who Have Experienced Trauma" and provide weekly in-home coaching to foster parents in the program, participate in recruiting homes for the program, collect data as required, enter information into UNITY, and document interactions with foster parents.
The positions are full-time with a regular work schedule that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. This is an uderfill for the Mental Health Counselor 2 level. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
