Environmental Health Specialists are responsible for conducting drug licensing investigations; label review, sampling and inspection of drug and cosmetic manufacturing plants; inspection of dairies and milk processing plants; certification of septic systems; inspection of food warehouses, traditional food and drink establishments, health facilities, public institutions and other related facilities to ensure compliance with State laws and regulations.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The selected candidate will work in the the Environmental Health Section (EHS) of the Division of Public & Behavioral Health in the Winnemucca field office. The candidate will be in an office with the Rating & Survey officer and a part time Administrative Assistant. The postion will require travel up to 50 % of the time to do EHS inspections in Humboldt and Pershing counties. Inspections are conducted at retail food establishments, schools, RV parks, instituitions, Invasive body decoration (Tattoo) shops, public bathing facilities, ISDS's (septics tanks), and manufactured food facilities. Some administrative duties are required the administrative staff is part time at the Winnemucca office. Occassional weekend work is required to conduct temporary food inspections at events (e.g, carnival, fair, etc.) in the community. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which includes the satisfactory completion of at least 45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours, of academic work in science courses, including biology, chemistry, physics, geology, sanitary engineering or environmental engineering. |

Any person licensed as an Environmental Health Specialist in another state or by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) must obtain and maintain certification of registration by the Nevada State Board within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
|
Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee by the Nevada State Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialists is required within 90 days of appointment for the I and II levels of this series. |
|
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |

Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. |
