The Position
Conservation Educators plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs designed to teach hunter and boating safety, environmental concepts and other wildlife related areas to the public, and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position will coordinate and manage Angler Education Programs for Southern Nevada -- specifically Clark, Lincoln, Nye and Esmeralda counties; recruit, train, supervise and schedule all Angler Education volunteer instructors in the Southern Region; and monitor instructor participation and documentation of volunteer hours for federal aid grants using the prescribed database; develop and present conservation seminars and educational clinics ranging from introductory level to advanced, and covering various angling methods. Public angler and fisheries seminars include Trout in the Classroom training classes for teachers, and angler education classes/clinics. Educational programs and workshops will often take place in outdoor settings and remote locations. This position leads agency participation in regional events such as the Clark County Fair & Rodeo, prepares a weekly fishing report, prepares visual aids, maintains program equipment and manages supplies essential to the Angler Education program. As assigned writes for publications, helps with videotaping efforts or radio presentations, and social media. This position also assists with research or other writing projects as needed, and assists with development of the regional Angler Education budget. This position will occasionally work outdoors in conditions that may be considered extreme.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, journalism, communications, outdoor recreation/leadership/education, wildlife management, biology or related field and two years of professional experience in conservation education which included presenting educational programs, writing news releases, developing written materials for publication, providing interviews for print and broadcast media and/or preparing and presenting radio and television broadcasts; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Conservation Educator II in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Statewide travel is required.
    Occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
    Pursuant to NRS 432A.170, positions offered employment in these positions must submit to a State of Nevada/FBI pre-employment background investigation.
