The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is seeking a Maintenance Repair Specialists I for the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC), a 48-bed secure facility for male youth age 14 to 18 located in Elko NV.
Under general supervision, incumbent will perform: 1) basic plumbing work in order to maintain, repair and modify plumbing systems and fixtures; install and repair valves and fixtures and open clogged drains; 2) basic carpentry work to maintain, repair and modify facilities and fixtures; install and repair locks, make keys, install venetian blinds, etc.; may construct special use features or objects; 3) basic and interior painting work such as taping, texturing and patching sheetrock and masonry surfaces, setting up ladders and scaffolding, etc.; 4) basic electrical work, including installing new parts in defective equipment, replacing ballasts on 120, 277 and 480 volt fixtures, adjusting and cleaning electronic controls; 4) basic equipment maintenance and repair work, including tuning and adjusting equipment and/or vehicles, preventive maintenance, replacing worn or damage parts, etc.; 5) basic welding and machine work such as shaping, joining and installing ductwork; constructing racks for storage; welding gates; repairing tools and equipment, etc. This position may be required to work nights, weekend and holidays, as well as share stand by responsibilities with other maintenance staff. This is a full time position with a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    This position requires an applicant be at least 18 years of age upon application. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required.
    This position is subject to standby and call back status.
    Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position may require flexible/rotating shifts.
    This position may require work on nights/weekends/holidays.
