The Position
Facility Supervisors/Managers plan, organize and direct buildings and grounds maintenance, repair, custodial work, security functions, and fleet maintenance and supervise skilled and semi-skilled staff.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is with the Department of Administration, State Public Works Division, Buildings and Grounds Section. This position is located in Las Vegas and is under the supervision of the Facility Manager. Under the supervision of the Facility Manager, the incumbent will plan, organize and direct buildings and grounds minor construction; maintenance and preventative maintenance; repairs; grounds maintenance and fleet maintenance through subordinate employees; and custodial and security functions on an as needed basis for all State facilities under the jurisdiction of the Division in Southern Nevada in accordance with established policies and procedures and within the position's scope of responsibility. The incumbent may travel and assist with projects or with training in Northern Nevada. The incumbent will provide direct supervision of the Maintenance Repair Specialists and Maintenance Repair Workers. This position will survey and inspect assigned facilities to identify maintenance and construction needs; will be responsible for providing proper scope of work and specifications in a timely manner; review all plans and schematics, construction codes, fire codes and safety procedures in order to identify and solve problems arising in the course of work; and assist with special projects and assignments as requested by the supervisor. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of building and facilities maintenance or construction experience which must have included project planning, preparation of job/project cost estimates, scheduling and project management, one year of which was at a supervisory level; OR one year of experience as a Facility Supervisor I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    For Facility Manager, Supervisor II, and III, completion of Facility Operator Certification for Utility Systems (FOCUS) or a comparable instructional program in facility maintenance may be substituted for one year of non-supervisory experience.
    The incumbent is required to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
The Examination

FACILITY SUPERVISOR 2 (09.609) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Describe in detail, your supervisory experience, including the number of years, with the following trade workers: 1) Carpenters, 2) Electricians, 3) Plumbers, 4) HVAC, 5) Commercial Refrigeration Mechanics, 6) Boiler Makers.
2) Describe your experience, including the number of years, establishing maintenance schedules and performing preventative maintenance for a large commercial facility (i.e., hospital, casino, manufacturing, office or apartment complex/high rise) in the following trades: 1) HVAC, 2) Refrigeration, 3) Back up power supplies, 4) Light vehicles and equipment, 5) Electrical control systems, 6) Plumbing, 7) Painting, 8) Grounds Maintenance.
3) Describe your experience, including the number of years, estimating time, material and equipment costs for building projects and future maintenance needs for a large commercial facility.
4) Describe your experience, including the number of years, in hazardous material control including receiving, inventorying, record keeping and disposal.
5) Describe your experience, including the number of years, in the following: a) preparing written plans and specifications for building projects and b) interpreting blueprints and schematic drawings.
6) Describe your experience, including the number of years, preparing work orders and reports for completed work.
7) Describe your experience, including the number of years, preparing and maintaining a maintenance budget for a large commercial facility.
