The Position
Licensed Practical Nurses provide general or psychiatric practical nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Nevada Department of Veterans Services, Southern Nevada State Veterans Home (SNSVH) is recruiting for a Licensed Practical Nurse 3, Admissions Coordinator. The position is geographically located in Boulder City, Nevada. Under the direction of the Administrator and the Director of Nursing the position will conduct Pre-admission assessments of veterans and spouses of veterans for possible admissions, to include coordinating and executing home and facility visits; and assisting potential residents and their families through admissions-related telephone calls; coordinate resident Admissions, to include support with the application process; assist families in identifying and obtaining required documentation; review documentation and educate families and potential residents on costs of services and programs; process applications for admissions and re-admissions utilizing a medical computer program, processing confidential and sensitive information including medical records and other protected health information; ensure applicants have completed required medical screening; liaison with primary care physicians regarding continuing care; participate in outreach and informational events and actively participate in providing facility tours. Through a team approach, the position will liaison with Veterans Service Officers regarding applicants Veterans Affairs benefits; attend mandatory meetings; collect data and prepare reports. In addition, the position will develop and implement marketing strategies; identify and maintain relationships with referral sources and community partners, conduct presentations, and attend special events to ensure acceptable occupancy rates. A PPD skin test for tuberculosis as well as a physical is required upon appointment. The Southern Nevada State Veterans Home is a 24-hour skilled nursing facility. The incumbent may be scheduled to work shift work, weekends and/or holidays depending upon operational needs. THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada and three years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, two years of which were providing nursing care to inmates in a correctional setting or to individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
