The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Materials Division in Carson City. Incumbent assists in the exploration, development, and certification of material sites for statewide highway construction and maintenance projects. Duties include reading and creating geological literature and maps; conducting seismic surveys; collecting and logging drilled rock core and auger drilling and monitoring others doing sample work using excavators and drill rigs; researching geology and land status; contracting land owners and land managers as needed; collecting field data and field notes and compiling reports. Information products produced include various maps, data reports, field logs and field notes, and calculations of quantities and distribution of test data. Maps, reports, and calculations are used by NDOT internally and distributed to outside government and private end users. Travel for this position can be up to 50% of the time on an irregular schedule. Travel can occur throughout the state for up to an entire work week in all seasons and weather conditions and is required to accomplish the job duties. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
