The Position
Compliance/Enforcement Investigators perform investigative and enforcement functions to monitor compliance and enforce State and/or federal laws or regulations pertaining to a specific program or regulatory area.
This position is located at the Taxicab Authority, Las Vegas. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; and assign and review work. The Supervisory Compliance Enforcement Investigator is responsible for giving assignments and instructions to subordinate staff, providing needed advice and assistance when problems arise; reviewing employee work to ensure proper procedures have been followed and that the desired objectives have been achieved; enforcing proper use of division equipment and facilities; directing the detection and apprehension of lawbreakers; and supervising investigations, preparing or supervising the preparation of reports and providing testimony in court. Additionally the position assists with the planning, monitoring and use of funds, personnel, equipment, and supplies; contributes research or analysis to identify program needs or enhancements; and assists with the development of policies and procedures, regulations and statutes needed to accomplish the division's goals and objectives. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from a Category II peace officer academy approved by the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, police science, psychology, business administration or closely related field; and three years of professional investigative, law enforcement, or program related experience where standard investigative and enforcement techniques were utilized to make program compliance determinations, enforcement of state and federal laws, preparation of detailed reports for the purpose of justifying administrative sanctions, penalties or criminal prosecution. Work experience may be obtained in law enforcement, investigative, regulatory or comparable setting; OR graduation from a Category II peace officer academy approved by the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training; graduation from high school or equivalent education; and five years of experience as outlined above; OR one year of experience as a Compliance/Enforcement Investigator III in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
    Incumbents carry firearms in the performance of their duties and must maintain a quarterly qualifying score of 70 or better with a firearm.
    Incumbents may be required to operate an authorized emergency vehicle.
    Incumbents in the Compliance/Enforcement Investigator II, III, Supervisory Compliance/ Enforcement Investigator and Chief Investigator, Compliance/Enforcement classes must maintain Nevada POST Category II certification as a condition of continuing employment.
    Position may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on standby or call back status.
    This position requires a pre-employment background investigation as a condition of employment.
    Successful candidates will be subjected to psychological testing which may include polygraph testing.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Applicants must submit to a background, medical, physical agility, polygraph and psychological evaluation prior to employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.

    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code, in order to attend a law enforcement academy and become P.O.S.T. certified.
The Examination
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Describe in detail your program management experience in performing or supervising the performance of investigative and enforcement functions.
2) Explain in detail your experience supervising employees (i.e. case assignment, training, performance evaluations, etc.). Please include the titles of staff supervised.
3) Identify your experience in training related to developing, implementing, reviewing and/or approving training initiatives to ensure compliance with program goals.
4) Describe your experience directing specialized investigations and actions and experience dealing with sensitive, high profile or difficult cases. Include any surveillance and/or covert activities and any experience testifying in court proceedings.
