The Position
Fire Control Dispatchers operate communication equipment at an assigned interagency communications center and dispatch personnel, supplies, aircraft and mobile equipment to fire scenes, medical emergencies, law enforcement incidents, hazardous materials incidents and other emergency situations.
The Forestry Division will be hiring Seasonal Dispatchers in the following locations: Elko Interagency Dispatch Center and the Las Vegas Interagency Communication Center. The incumbent will be responsible for taking reports during emergency situations and obtaining pertinent information to include nature and location of the incident. They are expected to determine the extent of equipment and emergency response personnel to dispatch in order to provide protection for life, property and natural resources during wildland fires, natural disasters and other emergencies as well as tracking resources and providing logistical support. They will be required to use computers extensively, including internet based fire applications and word processing programs. Knowledge of radio operations and communications equipment is also desirable. Incumbents must possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform job duties in a group environment during stressful situations, as well as work independently. These positions are operational in a dispatch center, therefore employees will be expected to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and/or extended hours during wildland fire season. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this class must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Positions are required to work varied shifts, weekends and/or holidays.
    Applicants are required to type 30 words per minute.
