The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This is a position within the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Division of Museums and History at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City. This position has broad ranging responsibility for maintaining the facilities and the operating equipment which makes up the historic train, the foundation of the public experiences at the museum. The successful candidate will possess diverse skills and a working knowledge of the principles of railroad operations and the maintenance of complex mechanical systems in locomotives and railroad rolling stock. Knowledge of track and railroad structures is also crucial to the position. Over time and with training, the incumbent must secure certification meeting Federal Railroad Administration requirements for conductor, locomotive engineer, and track inspector. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    This position requires an applicant be at least 18 years of age upon application. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required.
    Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position may require work on nights/weekends/holidays.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting is required.
