The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is seeking a Social Services Program Specialist II (SSPSII) to be located in Las Vegas or Carson City. This position involves statewide oversight and program development of the Child Protective Services (CPS) program. Foundational knowledge in child abuse and neglect as it relates to the safety, permanency and well-being of children is required. A knowledge of federal and state laws as it relates to child abuse and neglect is desirable. Under general direction of manager, position is required to coordinate, monitor and evaluate statewide CPS programming. The position includes development and implementation of statewide policy incorporating federal law/regulation, state statute and best practice standards. During legislative sessions, this position is expected to analyze proposed legislation regarding the impact on child welfare programs. The position provides consultation and technical assistance to professional and managerial staff. The position also conducts quality assurance and improvement activities related to child abuse and neglect in child welfare service cases, report writing, collaboration with stakeholders and grant oversight. The ability to identify and analyze critical data elements for quality assurance is desirable. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing social services to clients or program development and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing medical assistance programs services or healthcare services to clients or program compliance and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Field experience in child welfare as it relates to child abuse and neglect is required.
