Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Department of Business and Industry, Real Estate Division, Ombudsman's Office. This position will work with key personnel within the Ombudsman's Office of the Real Estate Division to collect and process Common Interest Community (CIC) annual registration fees for homeowners' associations statewide; and will act as an internal fiscal liaison for the entire Nevada Real Estate Division. Specifically, this position is responsible for the maintenance, organization and upkeep of the receivables accounts of the Ombudsman's Office as it pertains to homeowners' associations; the execution of collection activities; and the apportionment of penalties and fees for delinquent accounts. Job duties of this position also include: the reconciliation of the daily deposits receipted by various sections of the Real Estate Division; the processing, verification and certification of the Division's GL Coding; and the daily submission of the coding to the Fiscal offices of the Department of Business & Industry. In addition, utilization of statistical data to produce all-inclusive, clear, concise, and accurate reports are required on a periodic and as-needed basis. This position will also work as a part of a team with the development and allocation of the Division's budget, as well as assist management with the improvement of fiscal and organizational efficiency. Furthermore, this position will adhere to the State of Nevada standard accounting practices and State Administrative Manual (SAM) guidelines, as well as cooperate with other state agencies as it pertains to interlinking organizational matters. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; setting up computer spreadsheets to record, track, organize and report data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; and reconciling accounts; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant II in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
