Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This Psychiatric Nurse II (PN II) position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of Health and Human Services - Desert Regional Center in Las Vegas, NV. Desert Regional Center (DRC) is a 24-Hour Intermediate Care Facility/Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/ID) Campus. This is a very rewarding and specialized field of nursing working with extremely difficult individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, Mental Illness and closely related conditions such as Autism, Seizure Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, etc.
The PN II will maintain the health, safety and well-being of individuals and is responsible for the medical coordination of care, health services and treatment; collaborates with professional and paraprofessional staff to ensure optimum patient care and safety; carry out therapeutic procedures which provide for the emotional and physical comfort of patients; identifies patient health care needs utilizing professional nursing skills; administers treatments and medications per physician's orders; make comprehensive clinical observations and assessments based on information, for the evaluation of health needs; monitoring for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction and effectiveness; provides emergency medical treatment such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) use of AED and must make assessments, choices, determinations and judgments in all aspects of their work. The incumbent will advocate on behalf of the individuals served to have the best possible health and assist them in achieving their personal outcomes.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
