The Position
Accountant Technicians perform technical accounts maintenance work for agencies with complex accounting functions or systems. Factors that contribute to complexity include, but are not limited to, federal grant reporting, external bank accounts, cost allocation plans, budget accounts, bank guidelines other than those contained in the State Administrative Manual, enterprise accounting, complex fund accounting, and external reporting requirements.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position works within the Administrative Services Division (ASD) of the Department of Administration, located in Carson City. The division serves as the central fiscal agent of 70+ budget accounts across a variety of state agencies. Clients are primarily Department of Administration agencies, elected officials, and other small state entities that do not have their own fiscal staff. Specifically, this position will work in the Accounting section of ASD, mainly working within Accounts Payable. Job duties include, but are not limited to: approving payments in the State's financial system; auditing the pending payable transaction file; reconciling transactions with between the Data Warehouse of Nevada (DAWN) and IGOR (Admin Services Division internal program); overseeing/verifying Budget Status Reports (BSR) and Transaction Exception Reports; and auditing the purchase order files. The incumbent will be responsible for reconciliation of contracts, leases and procurement card statements. The incumbent will also function as a backup for their counterpart in Accounts Receivable and CIP accounting functions. The position supervises two Accounting Assistant IIIs. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE PRIOR TO THE POSTED CLOSING DATE DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting. Additionally required is three years of progressively responsible financial records maintenance experience which includes duties such as designing, implementing and interpreting narrative and data reports; applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information; preparing entries to accounts; analyzing assets and liabilities and preparing balance sheets; auditing contracts, vouchers and other documents and preparing summary transaction reports; implementing accounting control procedures; and overseeing the work of accounting clerical staff; OR one year of experience as an Accountant Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting.
