The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Open to current classified employees in state service with at least 6 months of continuous, full-time equivalent service. Promotional preference will be given in the order listed.
Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located with Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services in Sparks. Incumbents will provide direct patient care and selected other services to psychiatric patients; assists in developing and implementing unit activities and programs; work with other multi-disciplinary team members; respond quickly and appropriately to medical and psychiatric emergencies to include assisting in physical containment procedures, requiring an individual to have sufficient stamina, strength and flexibility to implement these procedures; ability to sit, bend and squat for short periods, lifting and moving patients is necessary as well as running at times in response to psychiatric emergencies. The job is in a 24 hour, 7 day a week facility and the individual applying should have no barriers to working night shift, swing shift, day shift or any combination of these shifts. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience, three of which were paraprofessional experience in a hospital, institutional, or residential, clinic, or community setting providing care, treatment, training and supervision for individuals with mental illness or emotional disturbances. In addition, applicants must have attained and maintained valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279; OR one year of experience as a Mental Health Technician III or Developmental Support Technician III in Nevada State service and valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and be free of active tuberculosis.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Additional Position Criteria
A copy of your valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279 MUST be attached to your application.
The Examination
MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN IV (10.338) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.
