Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVACR) Specialist's perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Under general supervision, this position oversees State Public Works Division contract coordination, repairs, preventative maintenance programs for following Nevada Department of Corrections systems: computerized energy management systems (CEM), chillers, sir-handlers, ventilation systems, evaporative cooling, chilled loop, warehouse reach-in and walk-in refrigeration/freezer units and A/C heat pump systems. This position will also provide control diagnostic support for all systems tied to the CEM system.

Completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program followed by two years of journey level experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; OR one year of experience as a HVACR Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

This position requires the incumbent to be EPA certified to recover refrigerant and recharge equipment. |

Universal 40CFR FREON certification is required. |
