The Position
Environmental Health Specialists are responsible for conducting drug licensing investigations; label review, sampling and inspection of drug and cosmetic manufacturing plants; inspection of dairies and milk processing plants; certification of septic systems; inspection of food warehouses, traditional food and drink establishments, health facilities, public institutions and other related facilities to ensure compliance with State laws and regulations.
Environmental Health Specialists are responsible for conducting inspections of dairy farms, milk processing plants, single service manufacturing facilities, bulk milk tank trucks, cheese plants and ice cream manufacturing facilities and custom meat & poultry processing facilities for compliance with federal and state health and safety standards; testing pasteurization equipment; evaluating pasteurizer operators, bulk milk haulers and milk samplers; collecting dairy farm and milk plant samples, addressing public health and safety concerns and/or investigations in an assigned area within Nevada relating to dairy products and facilities, and custom meat & poultry processing facilities to ensure compliance with State laws and regulations. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire knowledge and skills and abilities required in this occupation. The incumbent must be able to lift 75 pounds. This position will require travel up to 50% of the time to conduct inspections in southern and eastern Nevada. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which includes the satisfactory completion of at least 45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours, of academic work in science courses, including biology, chemistry, physics, geology, sanitary engineering or environmental engineering.
Special Notes
    Any person licensed as an Environmental Health Specialist in another state or by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) must obtain and maintain certification of registration by the Nevada State Board within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee by the Nevada State Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialists is required within 90 days of appointment for the I and II levels of this series.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Up to 50% travel requirement.
    College transcripts must be submitted with the employment application.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
