Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The position is located within the Lake Tahoe Watershed Branch, Bureau of Water Quality Planning in Carson City, NV. The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) is one of many federal, state, local and private partners collaborating to restore, protect and preserve Lake Tahoe's ecologic status as one of the few exceptionally clean and clear (ultra-oligotrophic) lakes in the world, and its value as a drinking water source, recreational destination, and local and regional economic asset. Incumbents will assist and support Lake Tahoe Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Program and Nevada Nonpoint Source Pollution Management Plan implementation in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The incumbent will collaborate with TMDL implementing partners to identify projects and actions that address water quality and watershed health issues; participate as technical advisory team member to evaluate and provide feedback on proposed stormwater quality improvement, erosion control, stream restoration and related best management practices (BMPs) implementation projects and design plans; provide implementation partners technical assistance to estimate load reductions resulting from pollutant control implementation using standardized models, and catalogue water quality improvement actions within a publicly accessible performance reporting and accountability platform; perform field inspections and data collection to assess and verify BMP condition; develop program improvement recommendations for executive consideration and update associated policy and guidance documents based on approvals; collaborate with partners to develop and implement contract workplans, and monitor performance relative to specified tasks, deliverables, budget and schedule; assist with preparation of the quarterly and annual program performance reports.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research, planning, and technical support; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
