The Position
Registered Nurses provide general or specialized professional nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Nurse I will be under the immediate supervision of a Correctional Nurse II to acquire the skills and experience in performing the duties of a Correctional Nurse. Correctional Nurses coordinate health services and treatment and collaborate with professional staff to ensure optimum patient care. They will administer medication intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, topically and orally as prescribed by a physician or designees; ensure correct time, dosage and route of administration; count controlled medications to ensure security; monitor patient for medication side effects and/or allergic reactions; assist in physical examinations and diagnostic testing; obtain samples for laboratory tests; and perform assigned laboratory tests. Staff will provide emergency medical treatments required to stabilize the patient's condition and prevent more serious complications.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse; OR an Interim Permit issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
Special Notes
Out of state applicants must have a temporary license issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment.

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
