Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position manages the multi-year, federally grant-funded Newlands Project Water Rights Mapping project, which is developing a geospatially accurate base map of water-righted lands within the Newlands Irrigation Project area. This position is responsible for overall project leadership, program management, and supervision of 4 Mapping Technicians. Responsibilities include tracking project expenditures and timely reporting progress to the grant-funding agency. This position coordinates with multiple agencies, responds to public inquiries, and conducts annual outreach meetings to communicate project progress and to receive public input. This position also includes other water rights duties including review of water right applications, collection and compilation of water use data, conducting field investigations, drafting water right certificates and writing rulings on contested applications. Appointment as a Nevada State Water Rights Surveyor is required within 90 days of hiring.

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.)
Special Requirements
Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience in one or more of the following: engineering project management, grants management or grants proposal writing, database management, and/or GIS mapping is required.
