Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of the Department of Health and Human Services - Rural Regional Center (RRC) in Carson City, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and provides a positive working environment. The mission of ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.
The Psychiatric Nurse II conducts nursing assessments of persons with intellectual and other developmental disabilities and consults with persons served, their families, and contracted provider and State professional staff regarding health issues; performs basic nursing duties including but not limited to: taking blood pressure, temperature, head circumference, height and weight, and other biometric measurements; provides health and safety related educational presentations to agency and contracted provider staff and persons served; and assists with nursing related policy updates and participates in statewide nursing work groups. Overnight and multiple day travel to outlying areas is occasionally required.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment. |
