The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of the Department of Health and Human Services - Elder/Adult Protective Services in Reno, NV. This grant funded position will be responsible for conducting assessments and developing appropriate courses of treatment, assisting in the development of intervention plans and goals with families and/or support systems of elders, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and/or mental health concerns, referring clients to other organizations for treatment or services, and providing crisis intervention. Current grant funding is effective through June 30, 2019, and is anticipated to be renewed on a yearly basis and the positions are entitled to layoff rights. This position will assist in creating new and updating current service delivery models, as well as obtaining and tracking additional community resources and services available to elders, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and/or psychiatric disorders. **Please ensure your application reflects your licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
