The Position
Safety Supervisors and Managers work in the Division of Industrial Relations programs mandated by the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
The Safety Manager 2 position is directly responsible for supervision of operations of the Las Vegas offices of Nevada OSHA. Duties include, but are not limited to, scheduling, payroll, discipline, training, policy implementation and field work flow and organization. Special duties may include public speaking, in-field representation of the section, interacting with department and divisional management, interacting with Federal monitoring representation and training of staff. This position has a travel requirement of up to 25% and also requires Standby/Call Back. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    One year of experience as an Industrial Hygienist IV or Safety Supervisor in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience comparable to a Safety Specialist (Consultation or Enforcement); Industrial Hygienist III; Safety Specialist, Mine Safety and Health; or Safety Specialist, Training in Nevada State service OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Travel to out-of-state locations for mandatory federal OSHA safety and health training and meetings is required.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
Safety Manager 2: Occupational Safety and Health
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Describe your experience, including the number of years, with the 29th Code of Federal Regulations for Occupational Safety and Health in a safety management, consultation or regulatory enforcement capacity.
2) Describe your experience, including the number of years, managing or supervising staff responsible for occupational safety and health.
3) Describe your experience, including the number of years, conducting negotiations and informal conferences to settle cases.
4) Describe your experience, including the number of years, adjudicating occupational safety and health violations.
5) Describe your experience, including the number of years, correcting and abating violations of Occupational Safety and Health Standards.

1) Do you have experience with Chapters 618 of the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code in a Safety Management, Consultation or Regulatory Enforcement capacity? If so, explain when and where you obtained this experience to include years worked.
