The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This will be a nighttime position that requires a high level of independency. The candidate must be reliable, have excellent communication skills and be able to apply critical thinking, assessment skills, intervention and evaluation skills to be able to make quick but accurate medical decisions. Incumbent must be able to work under pressure, make quick and accurate medical decisions, be able to adjust to change, and be able to work well as part of a health care team.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, medical intake of inmates, administering injections and TB tests, respond to man-down situations, assessing inmates' medical complaints, work as a team in the clinic and infirmary and pill passes, which requires walking long distances. Knowledge of the application of the nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation; documentation process; uses and effects of medications used in the practice setting; nursing principles and therapeutic interventions utilized in cooperation with a treatment team and physician or designee; operation and use of standard medical equipment; routine laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures; nutrition and personal hygiene as applied to patient care; human growth and development; physical restraint techniques and procedures as allowed in the practices will be needed. **Please ensure your application reflects your current nursing license information. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associates degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
