JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Statisticians gather statistical and other data and perform routine analysis and computations; compile reports and prepare charts, graphs, maps and diagrams to display the data and analysis.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is with the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Analytics. The Statistician 2 evaluates and fulfills requests for data and ad hoc reports, analyzes statistics, writes report specifications, identifies trends, and presents findings for data from the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS). The Office of Analytics - DCFS Branch supports all units within the division: Child Welfare, Juvenile Justice Services, Children's Mental and Behavioral Health Services, and Administrative and Support Services. The Statistician 2 evaluates the data request, collaborates with the person who requested the data, and determines the best course of action. For reports requiring programming, the Statistician 2 writes clear and concise report specifications to be used by the developers to create the reports. The incumbent will provide data to internal and external entities and complete ad hoc data requests by running appropriate reports or by creating queries and analyzing or summarizing the data using analytic software programming and using statistical methods to complete analyses. The Statistician 2 needs to be an excellent communicator (demonstrating strong listening, questioning, and interpersonal skills) and effectively express ideas and information both verbally and in writing. Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Excel is desirable and experience with SQL or SAS is a plus.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience assisting in the preparation, collection and analysis of data; OR one year of experience as a Statistician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
