JOB INFORMATION

Public Service Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study while enrolled in an educational institution.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
A Public Service Intern can have many functions within the Division of Child and Family Services. This position is with the Early Childhood Mental Health Day Treatment Program in Las Vegas, NV. Applicants would be responsible for creation, preparation, and daily administering of Day Treatment Curriculum. The daily curriculum focuses on different developmental foundations such as Fine and Gross Motor, Cognitive, social/emotional, and music and movement. The Intern would run the daily groups and assist in dealing with behavioral and emotional struggles of the children. Each site has two Interns who teach the curriculum in different classes one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each class is overseen by a Coordinator who assists in this implementation. The Day Treatment is composed of children ages 3 to 7 years old who have experienced significant trauma in their life and have been determined to have a Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED). Applicants would work a minimum of 20.24 hours in the week and would be eligible for paid leave and health insurance.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or the equivalent and enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university.
Special Notes
Employment is not to exceed six months from the date of graduation.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
Transcripts showing current, successful enrollment in an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, counseling, education, nursing, or closely related field MUST be attached to your application.
