The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Records, Communications, and Compliance Division is recruiting to fill positions located within the Nevada Point of Contact Firearms Program in Carson City. The incumbents will be assigned either a Sunday-Thursday 9 am-6pm or Tuesday-Saturday 9 am-6 pm work schedule and must be willing to work all state holidays excluding New Year's Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Overtime is also offered based on call volume. The incumbents will be primarily investigating subjects for prohibiting categories on his/her criminal history that would deny the possession of a firearm. This requires interpreting Federal and State laws; exercising independent analytical and critical judgment based on information obtained from multiple criminal records provided by various law enforcement and criminal justice agencies; and independently making decisions. The incumbent also trains new staff and assists with the evaluation of their performance and serves as a lead in the absence of the program supervisor; prioritizing and reviewing work, is knowledgeable in all areas of the Firearms Program, and ensuring completed work meets all required standards and deadlines. The position requires certification in NCJIS/NCIC within six months of employment and recertification every two years for continued employment. The NCJIS/NCIC certification will be conducted by the Division. This Division does not conduct phone interviews. ***UPON APPROVAL BY THE PERSONNEL COMMISSION, THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE REQUIRED TO UNDERGO PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING FOR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES.***

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: providing administrative/program support to professional staff and management; performing secretarial duties in support of a manager; coordinating communications between the manager, staff and program clientele; supervision of subordinate staff; researching information from internal and external sources; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
    Travel up to 25%.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience interpreting laws, policies, and procedures to make a final eligibility determination is required.
