The Position
Elder Rights Supervisor and Specialists provide assistance and advocacy to protect and enhance the health, safety, welfare and rights of persons aged sixty years and older.
This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of the Department of Health and Human Services - Long Term Care Ombudsman Program in Reno, NV.
The incumbent will investigate complaints made by or on behalf of residents in long term care settings throughout Washoe County (skilled nursing facilities, group homes, assisted living and homes for individual residential care). Travel is required at least 50% of the time to meet with the residents in long term care. Other duties include: provide information and training on a variety of topics to residents, family members, facilities, and other agencies through phone calls and mailing pertinent information; assist in the development and support of resident and family councils; track trends in facilities; make referrals to other agencies; provide information to the public about Medicaid eligibility and services; and mentor the volunteer long term care ombudsmen. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, sociology or related social science or human services field, and one year of experience working with the elderly investigating, mediating, negotiating and resolving complaints which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations and preparing detailed reports; OR one year of experience as an Elder Rights Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
