The Position
Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property.
This position is located within the Structures Division in Carson City. This position is responsible for performing routine, in-depth, special, and emergency bridge and tunnel inspections consistent with the requirements of the National Bridge Inspection Standard and National Tunnel Inspection Standards; collecting National Bridge Inventory(NBI), National Tunnel Inventory(NTI) and element level inspection data; developing bridge/tunnel repair strategies and producing bridge/tunnel inspection reports using bridge/tunnel management software; preparing bridge/tunnel inspection schedules; and performing various bridge/tunnel management tasks.
The incumbent performs federally required bridge and tunnel safety inspections throughout the state of Nevada; collects and analyzes bridge/tunnel condition data; evaluates bridge/tunnel condition, and develops bridge/tunnel maintenance /repair recommendations. Travel approximately 50-70% of the time may be required. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.)
Special Notes
    A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of employment.
Special Requirements
    Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

The Examination
Application Evaluation Exam
The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

1) Applicants must have successfully completed a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course and a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved comprehensive tunnel inspection training course or be able to complete these courses within one year of appointment as a condition of employment.
