The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located within District III, Elko (Crew) 912. Incumbent will assist the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer in field construction which involves the following: maintaining and managing a construction field office; maintaining and managing a construction field laboratory, including facilities for materials testing, physical properties of Portland Cement/Concrete, bituminous mixtures, soils and untreated aggregates, and physical and chemical properties of treated aggregates. Duties also include planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing the work of technical employees engaged in construction inspection and surveying. THIS RECRUITMENT MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING POSITION. SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT MAY PROGRESS AFTER MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND WITH APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, some positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Experience
    This position requires certification as an Engineering Intern.
    Incumbents must pass the Professional Engineering exam prior to the end of the probationary period.
