The Position
Public Service Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study while enrolled in an educational institution.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position is with Nevada Early Intervention Services (NEIS) in the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of the Department of Health and Human Services located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The mission of the Aging and Disability Services Division is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. The Public Service Intern I is a full-time position under the direction of a Developmental Specialist who provides specialized behavioral services and direct services to children under the age of three with disabilities (including but not limited to autism, vision and hearing impairments, genetics syndromes and prematurity) under the federal regulations of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or the equivalent and enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university.
Special Notes
    Employment is not to exceed six months from the date of graduation.
    Employment in this class will not lead to permanent status in State service.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Additional Position Experience
    Transcripts showing current, successful enrollment in an accredited college or university in early childhood special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or closely related field MUST be attached to your application.
