The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Psychiatric Nurse II (PN II) position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD), Dept. of Health and Human Services, Desert Regional Center (DRC) in Las Vegas, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, and friendly co-workers. ADSD's mission is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. The Psychiatric Nurse II (PN II) is located at DRC. This is a very rewarding and specialized field of nursing working with individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and Developmental Disability. The PN II participates in the overall quality assurance and performance improvement activities for Community Services, as well as the ICF/ID programs. This includes participation in the quality oversight of contracted community providers, conducting and participating in the environmental reviews of supported living arrangements, the ICF/ID, and Jobs and Day Training Sites, conducting investigations of allegations of abuse, neglect and exploitation, completing thorough and comprehensive health care assessments and developing detailed reports of findings including recommendations for health care supports.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
