Forestry Program Managers plan, coordinate and oversee activities, services and staff in major program areas
such as resource management, fire management, conservation camp management, or serve as Regional Forester. The incumbent functions as a manager who trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of subordinate supervisors; develops policies and procedures; and allocates staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. The Division of Forestry's mission is to provide professional natural resource and wildland fire management services to enhance, conserve and protect forest, rangeland and watershed values, endangered plants and other native flora.
The Division of Forestry has a unique partnership with the Department of Corrections to train and provide labor skills in natural resource and wildland fire management to minimum security inmates to help rehabilitate and reduce return rates. This position is a senior leadership position within the Division, working alongside counterparts representing resource and wildland fire management to plan, coordinate and oversee activities, services and staff to meet the overall mission of the agency. The incumbent should have a working knowledge of principles, practices and methods of effective natural resource management for forests, rangelands, and watersheds; wildland fire suppression, mitigation and prevention; federal, State and local governmental relationships and collaborative processes; and leadership principles and practices.
The Forestry Program Manager- Conservation Camps functions as a program administrator and manager who conducts strategic planning and establishes programmatic goals for continued development and enhancement of the program. The incumbent allocates staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives, tracks strategic plan implementation, supervises and evaluates the performance of subordinate supervisors, and develops policies and procedures. The program manager is responsible for training and mentoring staff in order to develop strong program leadership and must be able to develop and manage budgets and analyze and create reports for varying audiences.
The position requires strong leadership skills and the capability to work effectively as a member of an executive management team.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, forestry, natural resource management or related field and four years of increasingly responsible conservation camp experience which included conservation and natural resource management activities, fire suppression and budget preparation including at least two years of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
