The Position
Disability Adjudicators evaluate disability claims and make determinations in accordance with laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing Social Security Disability Programs. Work involves the evaluation of medical evidence to make judgments about the presence, onset, clinical severity and prognosis of physical or mental impairments and determination of the vocational potential of claimants in order to allow or deny Social Security benefits.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is for the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) in the Bureau of Disability Adjudication in the Carson City office. Incumbents are considered master or expert level Adjudicators and provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) direction and guidance to lower level staff on Social Security disability laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. ***Special Requirement: Applicants for this position are subject to a favorable passing of federal background check in accordance with HSPD-12 requirements as a condition of employment.***

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a life, social science, health science, legal studies or related field and two years of journey level experience making disability determinations independent of review by medical or psychological consultants equivalent to a Disability Adjudicator III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as describe above.
Special Notes
    Incumbents must be able to approve or deny Social Security Disability benefits to claimants with severe and possibly terminal conditions in accordance with federal regulations.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
The Examination
DISABILITY ADJUDICATION SUPERVISOR
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.
