The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
The position is with the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH), Rural Clinics (RC) in our administrative office in Carson City. Rural Clinics provides an array of outpatient behavioral health services for both adults and children in 16 clinics in 12 counties across Rural Nevada. Services are generally provided Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Services assist individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and recovery. MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR: This position performs management, planning and analytical functions in support of agency objectives and program implementation. This includes monitoring quality improvement and strategic planning activities; conducting consumer surveys; developing policies and procedures; assisting with emergency/disaster preparedness; recommending and implementing medical records process improvement; designing and conducting program audits and review for use in program planning, budget development, and resource allocation decisions ; ensuring compliance with state Medicaid guidelines; and developing clinical practice guidelines. This person supervises Utilization Management/Process Improvement personnel towards meeting agency goals and implementing improvement activities. ** Please ensure your application reflects your licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and three years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
